If you wish to register your child at Winpenny Secondary School, the following procedure applies:

  1. First, please make an appointment with our Secondary School receptionist to attend a school tour, where you will be given lots of information about Secondary School. At this time you will be required to complete a Visitor´s Form. We will then be able to contact you and send information about our registration process and current school fees by email.
  2. Your child must then attend a Spanish and English entrance exam, and an evaluation with our school psychologist, held each Thursday, from 8:00am until 13:00pm. On this day, children must bring a packed lunch or money for our school cafeteria. When you bring your child to school, we ask that you also bring a copy of your child’s current report card. After we have conducted the entrance exam, parents are then contacted within 3 working days to confirm the result.

Description

Winpenny Secondary School continues the bilingual approach of the Primary School, and consists of grades 7th through 9th. As an IB school, the students use the skills learned in Primary School to enhance their learning through project-based work, peer evaluation, and are taught the skills necessary to succeed. The program is designed to develop sound preparation for further studies, and classes include humanities, science, math, Spanish, English, art, music and PE, and each is taught by teachers passionate about their field.

All English language subjects are taught by native English speakers from all over the world, allowing students to adapt to understanding the variety of accents, and all students are offered the option of taking the Cambridge Preliminary English Test. We allow students to take the next steps in their academic and English language development by applying that ability in a variety of contexts, academic and extracurricular. By applying English in humanities and science, as well as language arts, students will use their comprehension and expression skills in a variety of hands-on projects, from essays to presentations, to movies, to test and expand their capabilities.

We offer weekly academic clubs to all secondary students, covering a range of interests. These clubs offer the opportunities for students to gain valuable real-world experience in leadership, organisation, and initiative. As all club meetings and activities are in English, they build upon our IB base, to offer a whole new level of autonomy and self-direction for students. With the sense of ownership these clubs build, students gain the skills and confidence in themselves they will need to succeed in preparatory school, university, and beyond.
